Log Home Construction

by Clinton Stone

When looking to build your log home, or remodel your current one, finding a good log home manufacturing in your area company is key. There are a variety of different types of construction companies that take different approaches to building log homes. For starters, you're looking at around a four to six-month process for building, expect a bit longer if the building is more complex. It depends upon a number of things, such as the time of the year, the availability of workers, and the level of experience of the contractors you hire. To begin the log home building process, you must first decide what type of foundation you want for your property, followed by the floor system you will want for your log home. You have a choice in the type of flooring system you want. If you want timber joists, it adds authenticity so be prepared to pay more. There's also the less expensive option of conventional wood joists for your flooring system. As you have your log home built, you must ensure that it is started correctly or everything will fall apart. You need to ensure that your contractors make sure that the logs are absolutely square, leveled, and sealed weathertight to the foundation. Moving on to other parts of the project before this is done correctly, will result in a faulty log home. One method that ensures the walls are square is to measure diagonally across the subfloor in both directions. If both measurements are the same, the home's footprint is square.

Moreover, you can choose a variety of different types of log lengths for your home. There is the precut log option, where you purchase all of your logs at a precut size to match your windows and door openings. Additionally, each log is categorized for a certain place in the structure and only fits that spot, much like a puzzle. Precut logs have a second option where they are only partially cut logs. This means they will be corner notched, but not cut to any specific length. They are easier to sort and find, but each log will need to be cut to length before assembly. On the other hand, you can choose have your contractors build you a log home with random-length logs. By choosing this option, you are able to design the logs in the way that you see fit and cut them accordingly. So whether you're looking to remodel your current log home or build yourself one, remember the team of contractors you select and the foundation you choose for your home determines everything.
